<Moby-Dick Cruise>

Production History

2025  Premiere at Haddangse Theatre

Synopsis

Haddangse views the theatre not as a fixed stage but as a space to be explored, and has consistently pursued work that crosses the boundary between theatre and the theatre building itself.

Moby-Dick Cruise grows out of this creative approach: it transforms the entire building housing the theatre into a ship, and through the actors' movement and live camera footage, is designed as a Cinematic Tech-Theatre that lets the audience directly experience the sensation of a voyage.

Part I: The Voyage — Rather than a ticket, the audience receives an 'all-inclusive' boarding pass for a luxury cruise. Through real-time camera direction, the once-ordinary building is completely transformed into a cruise liner complete with a premium sauna and infinity pool. Amid the dazzling parades, live concerts, and premium glacier-water performances unfolding before them, the audience is swept into the sweet illusion offered by the finest service.

Part II: The Deep Sea — Guided by the crew from the cruise into the deep sea, the audience finds themselves face to face with the spirit of an enormous whale, one that carries within it tens of millions of slow, vast years — in waters where human names and human speed no longer apply. With no set pieces, no special effects, only the actors' bodies conjuring this surreal congregation, the audience comes face to face with the wild itself, beyond all artificial splendor.
