Synopsis
Fragmented memories and dreams —
experience the ecstasy and hollow ache of memory, stirred awake by a sheet of white paper.
There is a mother who has lost her daughter, searching endlessly for the memories they once shared.
Her daughter as a child. The days when the whole village raised a child together.
The small moments held in the mother's memory are beautiful, boisterous, and warm.
The audience experiences a world where reality and dream, past and present, become entangled.
The object-play The Time Painter conveys, through paper objects and without a single violent or brutal image, the deep resonance and emotion of a mother's grief for a daughter she lost during the May 18 Democratic Uprising (Gwangju Uprising). The passage of time and the warping of space, rendered through paper objects, feel sensory and inventive. The audience experiences fragments of time and memory, feeling both the beauty and the pain of remembering, together.
