Based on Sen Mu's adaptation of Liu Zhenyun's novel, One Word to Replace Ten Thousand is set before and after the founding of New China, spanning past lives, present lives, and a hundred years of a motley crew of characters — every surname, every occupation, every kind of life, every kind of face — jostling together to get by. Told across 2 acts and 24 scenes, the eloquent, the inarticulate, and the silent come together, revealing the tragedy of our present moment through metaphor and humor.
